I slept in today, because I stayed up late last night. I was a scatterbrained menace, being pulled in three different directions. I was trying to grade psets for 208, do research work, reschedule my tute for an extra half hour (three of us needed to go early today), and talk to my mom. I did not get the grading done. I did some reading for my research. I talked to my mom but did not do yoga. I did reschedule the tute. Overall, pretty decent.
My B2 sheet didn’t come in until right before the tute, but I did pretty well on it, except for the last question I fudged! Also, I was one of only four (of seven) people to turn in the sheet and had one of the most complete sheets. The tute was fairly straightforward and really fast, because all three of us were in the small subgroup who had completed the sheet. Very pleasant state to be in. I still have no clue how this whole Oxford thing is supposed to work. What are the expectations? What about the schedule?
I think I’ll be doing tutes until 9th. I have two sheets left for B2 (7th, 8th). I have two sheets and a drab left for B6 (probably three weeks, how he likes to split them–7th, 8th, 9th). I have three sheets left for B4 (7th, 8th, 9th). Or they could be put off until Hilary, but that would be bad for me.
After the tute, I worked on my research a bit more. I feel like I’m finally starting to get a grasp of the parameters I need to change, so hopefully I will be able to make progress. Then, I had a fairly productive meeting with my mentor dude (I’m supposed to work on a simpler model over the weekend and play with COMSOL 5.6’s new Nonlinear Acoustics features).
Next, I got confused and tried to go to an Act on Mass meeting, which turned out not to be happening. I’m really excited for their next legislative campaign to get the transparency act passed (basic stuff like knowing committee votes and having 72 hours to read legislation). I know I’m going to be working on this over the vacation.
Then, I was a slug for a while, lounging on a long Zoom call with my parents. I don’t normally get to just hang out much with all the sheets I have due.
I decided not to order takeout, since I’ve had a takeout-heavy week, but I did decide to cook a bit more elaborately. I made lentils and rice with fried egg, which is really tasty (except for the fact I hate eggs–why did I buy them again?) At least they’re gone. They were rather old, so I tried floating them in water to see if they were bad. Not bad, just old. Rather good eggs with very dark yolks actually.
Piper’s Egg Lentils and Rice
- Half can lentils
- Two/cup and half cups? Rice
- Two eggs
- One bouillon cube
- half clove garlic
- onion powder
- two tablespoons butter
Drain rice (use pot to contain colander spill-off), bring water to boil, cook rice for about 25 minutes covered and simmering. Break and beat eggs with pinch of salt and bit of water. Heat pan and grease with butter. Cook eggs, folding and breaking up to get chunks. This doesn’t take long! You want the eggs fairly dry though. Chop carrot and garlic. Cook garlic, half bouillon cube, and carrots until soft in some butter. Add lentils and sprinkle of onion powder. Cook until dry. Add eggs. Add rice. Add remaining half cube bouillon and butter. Serve warm.
I’m really dying to try this recipe with a bit of tomato sauce/paste. I think it would work.
Then, I finished up my night by grading the 208 p-sets. Ugh. Believe me, your grader wants you to do well. It is far less work. And for goodness sake, write neatly and clearly and label your set with your name!
